Semantic transparency and Oneida morphological parts of speech

چکیده
Abstract North American languages have figured prominently in discussions about parts of speech. This paper examines more closely the evidence for morphological speech one Northern Iroquoian language, Oneida, and asks what semantic properties underlie its We make two claims. First, inflected Oneida are semantically transparent that a part can be determined solely on basis well-established distinctions. are, this respect, canonical, Canonical Typology’s sense. Second, organized along orthogonal dimensions, an ontological dimension, i.e., sort entity members category describe, type kind relation conveyed by category. show inflection is sometimes sensitive to distinctions single inflectional process both dimensions at same time. then our bi-dimensional classification stems accounts mixed kinship terms, which “noun”-like “verb”-like they have.

Semantic transparency and masked morphological priming: an ERP investigation.
The role of semantics in the segmentation of morphologically complex words was examined using event-related potentials (ERPs) recorded to target words primed by semantically transparent (hunter-hunt,) opaque (corner-corn), and orthographically related (scandal-scan) masked primes. Behavioral data showed that only transparent items gave rise to priming. The ERP data showed both N250 and the N400...

15 صفحه اولA Semantic Similarity Framework Exploiting Multiple Parts-of Speech
Semantic similarity aims at establishing resemblance by interpreting the meaning of the objects being compared. The Semantic Web can benefit from semantic similarity in several ways: ontology alignment and merging, automatic ontology construction, semantic-search, to cite a few. Current approaches mostly focus on computing similarity between nouns. The aim of this paper is to define a framework...
متن کاملSemantic transparency, semantic opacity, states of affairs, mental states and speech acts
There are two well-known views of linguistic communication: the code model and its counterpart, the hypothesis of the semantic transparency. If both of these views were correct, then there would be only one possible type of mishap in communication, that due to noise in the communication channel. However, none of these views is
